Technology used at the Olympics
As the world turns its attention to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics, the spotlight is not just on the athletes, but also on the ground-breaking technologies that are transforming the games. Supplying this array of technologies is Atos, who are running 250,000 hours of testing to make sure the deliverance of these technologies runs smoothly by connecting, securing, and digitally enabling the games. From advances in biometric monitoring to state-of-the-art broadcast innovations, this year’s Olympics are set to showcase a joint force of athleticism and technological brilliance like never before. In this blog post, we will explore the innovative technologies taking centre stage alongside competitors, enhancing the experience for athletes, spectators, and viewers around the globe. Whether you are a tech enthusiast or a sports fan, these innovations are sure to captivate and inspire. Atos as the official partner of the games this year and a partner of ours shall be kicking off the showcase to the world as of July 26th at the opening ceremony.
Real time data:
A newer piece of tech advancement that was developed in preparation for the Beijing 2020 games was The Cycling Smart-Glasses which allowed for real time data to be available for cyclists and coaches enabling them to see where energy was being exerted, as well as their power, speed, oxygen level and heart rate. These glasses have revolutionised the way the Olympians train, as all the ride data, is saved to the cloud, so that they can analyse where they exert most of their power, enabling them to recover these muscles and continue to train, using the other functionalities. The glasses have a mode called ‘ghost mode’ where data is taken from a previous ride and can be used as a measurement for the cyclists whilst they are training. The eyewear is said to work in a similar fashion to a smart watch but is accessible to the cyclists whilst they are on their bikes through voice activation. Once activated current data appears on the lens of the eyewear so that they can clearly see what pace they are working toward.
AI:
Intel is partnering with Samsung to make this year’s viewer experience of the games unlike any other before. Through AI they can bring to life the heritage of the games for fans such as having a digital exhibition where they can observe artefacts from the original games in a 3D form creating an immersive scope. At the grounds where the 2024 games are held, there will also be further opportunities for the fans to have new forms of entertainment such as finding out using AI which Olympian you are most like.
Revamped viewing experience:
New cloud- based technology will revolutionise the games, particularly through the introduction of advanced data analytics and real-time monitoring systems. By utilising the cloud, the Olympics will feature enhanced athlete performance tracking, providing instantaneous data on metrics such as speed, heart rate, and biomechanics. Additionally, cloud technology will enable dynamic broadcasting capabilities, offering viewers personalised and interactive experiences, including multi-angle views and augmented reality overlays. This integration of cloud computing will not only enhance the accuracy and depth of sports analytics but also significantly improve the overall viewing experience for a global audience.
